WIN: Helping people make healthier food choices [2012–2013]
Living in a society that makes the healthiest choices the easiest choices is good for us. That’s why we worked hard to see the implementation of the Health Star Rating system for food packaging in Australia.
In 2013 the Government introduced the voluntary system as a step towards ensuring convenient, at-a-glance nutrition information for people when buying food. The system has been implemented voluntarily by some food manufacturers since mid-2014.Despite fierce lobbying from the food industry, significant community support made sure the Government knew that people wanted more informative food labels. Over 6,000 people signed our joint petition with CHOICE supporting the Health Star Rating System.
This win means it’s easier for people all across Australia to make better choices about foods and to help keep themselves and their families healthy.
