National Volunteer Week gives Cancer Council NSW a chance to celebrate and recognise the support our dedicated volunteers provide across Cancer Council NSW programs, services, and events.
Every volunteer who works with us is making a difference. Whether they are helping with paperwork, driving patients to appointments, or speaking up for better cancer care, each contribution is invaluable.
The theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week was ‘Something for Everyone’ recognising the diverse passions and talents people bring to the act of volunteering. It is an invitation to explore the range of opportunities available, highlighting that there’s a place for everyone in the world of volunteering.
Meet Sinilia, a champion for community needs
When Sinilia Radivojevic started volunteering as a data entry volunteer 40 years ago, she quickly saw a need for better language accessibility in her Fairfield community. When she offered her Spanish language skills, she was able to address this need and help people access the cancer information and support they needed.
After 15 years of office volunteering, Sinilia began volunteering with palliative care patients at Fairfield Braeside Hospital. Through her work, she brings joy through fun events, music, and fulfilling wishes, and creating meaningful emotional connections through vital support.
Sinilia is also making a long-term impact through her volunteering. As an advocate, she helps reduce the impact of cancer by influencing policy, programs, and funding for everyone in NSW. Speaking up for her local community by advocating to Campbelltown Council, and successfully creating smoke-free zones for the Fairfield community.
Events and volunteering, a perfect match
Beyond volunteering Sinilia’s dedication and energy are truly inspiring. As a top fundraiser for Cancer Council NSW, she has been hosting Biggest Morning Tea events for 40 years and is a long-time fundraiser for both Relay for Life and Stars of Sydney South West.
Sinilia’s passion and commitment show how one person can make a huge difference in their community. If you are inspired by Sinilia’s story, find some useful links below to find out how to get involved.
